Welcome
to the world of E. & J. Winter Model Engineering Supplies. Since 1978
Ernest and Joan have been servicing the requirements of fellow Model Engineers
in Australia, New Zealand and other countries, continuing a tradition
established in 1922 by the late O. Burnaby Bolton, regarded by many as
the father of model engineering in Australia. Ernest and Joan have close
connections with the model engineering fraternity and with our long experience
are able to supply most of the necessities from our extensive stocks,
drawn whenever possible from Australian sources. We also keep in stock
a large selection of imported goods not available from other Australian
sources and we invite you to peruse our stock list by clicking the appropriate
link.
Our main products are our plans and castings for Australian and British
live steam locomotive designs, stationary and marine steam engines, IC
engines, technical and Model Engineering books, tooling, fasteners (nuts,
bolts, screws and rivets), materials in the hard to get small sizes and
quantities, our boiler building service, and machining service.
New designs in most categories are being added to our range from time
to time. Designs that appear in the major Model Engineering magazines
are included as demand dictates but our main area of interest is in the
design of new Australian steam locomotives for the most popular 5" gauge.
Fully detailed plans are made by Ernest, drawing on a background of engineering
draughting, full size marine and locomotive steam, including 20 years
active participation in heritage steam railway operation and maintenance,
resulting in authentic and professional quality drawings. Our foundry
patterns are then professionally made by a highly skilled tradesman patternmaker
and all castings offered are made by mainstream professional foundries.
A new line of both large and small stationary engines and boilers is now
being introduced to compliment the ever-popular designs by O. Burnaby
Bolton, whose aging plans and patterns are being progressively upgraded
to suit modern expectations as time permits. The most popular O.B.Bolton
designs No.2, No.5, No. 10, No.14, No.27 and B6-3 boiler have already
been attended to and fully detailed construction manuals have been written
for engines No.5, No.7 and B6-3 Boiler.
Manuals for No.2 and the new HSE-1 stationary engine are presently in
production. These manuals are very popular and make the task of absolute
beginners a great deal easier and more pleasurable.
